Formation History of The Woodlands Alumnae Chapter
The vision to establish a chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated in Montgomery County began as early as 2019. At that time, dedicated efforts were initiated by a group; however, evolving national chartering processes delayed the realization of that vision.
Undeterred, the dream remained alive. In 2024, as renewed chartering opportunities emerged, six committed and visionary members—April Inman, Carmen McZeal, Danielle Wiley, Rowena Lewis, Shiriki Davis, and Tracy Taylor-Smith—came together with renewed purpose. Known as the Sensational Six, they recognized that the rapid growth and evolving needs of The Woodlands and surrounding communities called for the presence, service, and impact of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
In 2025, the Sensational Six developed and executed a strategic plan to meet the Alumnae Chapter chartering requirements. With focus, determination, and a shared commitment to service, they meticulously organized and completed each component of the chartering process.
In October 2025, a comprehensive business case was submitted to Southwest Regional Director Crystal T. Barker, outlining the significant value and lasting impact a new chapter would bring to both the Sorority and the communities it would serve.
Momentum continued to build. In February 2026, Regional Director Barker met with representatives of the Sensational Six to further explore the vision and justification for the proposed chapter. Following that meeting, a formal request to proceed with the chartering process was submitted to National Headquarters.
On March 4, 2026, a historic milestone was reached when Regional Director Crystal T. Barker announced the official approval to charter a new chapter.
The journey culminated on April 19, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. CST, when 41 dedicated members officially chartered The Woodlands Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, proudly becoming the Sorority’s 1,081st chapter.
Today, The Woodlands Alumnae Chapter serves the communities of Conroe, Kingwood, Magnolia, New Caney, Porter, Montgomery County, Shenandoah, and The Woodlands, carrying forward Delta Sigma Theta’s enduring legacy of sisterhood, scholarship, service, and social action.
Founded through perseverance, vision, and unwavering commitment, The Woodlands Alumnae Chapter stands poised to create lasting and transformative impact for generations to come.
